Community & Events
Celebrate traditions, faith, and togetherness through vibrant cultural gatherings, religious ceremonies, and community events that strengthen bonds, preserve heritage, and create cherished memories for generations to come.
Reading Room
In the early days, Banaps returning from Mysore Mills would gather at Badakere Venkat Rao’s residence, where one of the members would read aloud the day’s newspaper to the assembled group. What began as a simple yet meaningful ritual of staying informed gradually evolved into a full-fledged Reading Room, officially established when Canara Union moved into its own building in 1932.
The Reading Room offers a peaceful and welcoming space for members to relax, read, and stay informed. Stocked with a wide selection of daily newspapers, regional and national magazines, and periodicals, it is the ideal spot for quiet reflection and intellectual engagement.
We encourage our members—young and old—to make the most of this facility and cultivate the enriching habit of reading.
Study Circle
The Study Circle at Canara Union serves as an engaging platform for knowledge-sharing and intellectual dialogue. We regularly host talks, discussions, and lectures by eminent speakers who are highly respected in their fields of expertise—ranging from science, technology, and finance to history, literature, and public policy.
These sessions are not just informative, but also interactive and thought-provoking, with enthusiastic participation from our members. The open format encourages lively discussion, making each session a collaborative learning experience.
Whether you’re a student, professional, or lifelong learner, the Study Circle is a wonderful opportunity to expand your perspective, stay updated on important issues, and connect with thought leaders and fellow knowledge seekers.
Festivals and National Celebrations
At Canara Union, we take pride in celebrating Indian festivals and national events in a truly traditional and meaningful manner, fostering a strong sense of community and cultural identity. We mark major festivals such as Sankarathri, Holika Dahan, Ugadi Panchang Vaachan, Vinayaka chauthi, Diwali mela with rituals, decorations, and participation from members across generations. These vibrant celebrations are not just festive events, but also reflect the values and heritage of our community.
In addition to festivals, we solemnly observe Independence Day by ceremonially hoisting the Indian Tricolour, accompanied by patriotic songs and tributes to the nation. It is a moment of pride and unity that brings together members in the spirit of national pride.
These events offer a chance for families to connect, children to learn about Indian traditions, and everyone to experience the joy of shared celebration.
